Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD)

The Sexual Health Clinics have combined with Women's Health Clinics and officially reopened in July 2021

HOME is where the SWAB is...
The HIV Prevention Program is offering free, no contact STI testing for Contra Costa residents aged 17 years old and older. We offer testing for HIV as well as gonorrhea and chlamydia in the throat, anus, vagina, and urethra. The process takes less than one hour and is designed to help slow the spread of COVID-19 by enabling our community members to safely test for STIs in the comfort of their homes.
How it works:
  • A certified test counselor brings the test kits to your front door in full personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • You collect the samples in the privacy of your own bathroom: oral swab for HIV, vaginal, throat, and rectal swabs for gonorrhea and chlamydia, and urine sample for gonorrhea and chlamydia (individuals with a penis).
  • We take the samples for gonorrhea and chlamydia to the lab for processing. Gonorrhea and chlamydia test results are available within three to five business days.
  • HIV rapid tests are immediately run by the testing team and results are available in 20 minutes.
  • If any of your tests come back positive, we help link you to treatment.
  • We leave you a bag full of condoms and lube!

Sexually Transmitted Infections are steadily increasing in Contra Costa (see our Epidemiology Unit's STD maps and tables page). The numbers are very high in sexually active youth under the age of 25 years. We encourage all persons who are sexually active to practice safer sex. By using a barrier such as an intact condom, the risk of spreading an infection is decreased

We also recommend that those who are sexually active with multiple partners get a medical exam every 3-6 months. If you are diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection, tell each partner with whom you have had sex in the previous 60 days to get tested.

The STD program offers screening, diagnosis, and treatment services for STDs including syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV. We accept Medi-Cal, Contra Costa Health Plan (CCHP), and Family Pact.

Please call 925-608-5350 from 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday, to make an appointment and to advise clinic staff of any special problems or for consultation or information.

Some drop-in appointments may be available when the clinic is not full. Appointments are recommended.
