Flu Vaccine Available to Contra Costa Residents Beginning October 17

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

What:

Contra Costa Health Services will offer flu vaccine to persons living in Contra Costa County beginning October 17. The vaccine protects people from three strains of the influenza virus, including the 2009 H1N1 virus.

Who:

Vaccine is recommended annually for everyone ages 6 months and older.

Where:

Vaccine will be available to the general public at Public Health Immunization Clinics in Brentwood, Concord, Pittsburg and Richmond. Vaccine will also be available to Contra Costa Health Center patients during walk-in clinics at the Antioch, Concord, Martinez, Pittsburg and Richmond Health Centers.

A list of dates and times for all locations is available online at www.cchealth.org/topics/flu/vaccination.php

Why:

The flu is a serious respiratory disease that can cause severe illness and death. Children younger than 5 years, pregnant women, the elderly and people with certain chronic conditions are at higher risk for severe flu illness. Getting vaccinated against the flu now will help prevent spread during the holiday season. If your child is younger than 9 years, check with your provider to see if he or she will need two doses of flu vaccine. There is plenty of flu vaccine available. Check www.cchealth.org or www.flucliniclocator.org to find clinics offering flu vaccine.
