What:
Contra Costa County will officially break ground to build a new $45-million, state-of-the-art health center in the City of San Pablo. The 53,000 square foot, environmentally-sustainable facility (LEED certified) will replace the existing Richmond Health Center and is expected to be completed by July of 2012. Congressman George Miller, who will be attending the groundbreaking, was instrumental in helping the County secure $12 million in ARRA funds (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of2009) to help fund the project. The balance of the construction cost was financed with the proceeds from a 30-year County Bond issuance. The Richmond Health Center, located at 100 38th Street in Richmond, has served West Contra Costa County Residents since 1967. The facility is one of eight Health Centers run by Contra Costa Health Services, and the only one never to be replaced. The building has exceeded its useful life and must be replaced. It currently serves about 7000 patients each month (84,000 patients each year), and offers 53 different services to patients including cardiology and pediatric services.
