Contra Costa Urges Awareness for National HIV Testing Day

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

What:

Local health officials say finding a rapid HIV testing site this National HIV Testing Day (June 27) is as easy as sending a text message, thanks to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Text your five-digit ZIP code to "KNOWIT" (566948) and you should receive a text message with an HIV testing site near you. At some locations, rapid testing is available with results in 20 minutes. People can also call 1-800-287-0200 to find a location in Contra Costa.

Who:

Everyone is urged to be tested and know their status. Free, confidential testing is available through Contra Costa Public Health for those who are uninsured or underinsured or part of a high-risk group, such as men who have sex with men, intravenous drug users, sex workers and people whose partners are HIV positive.
