What:

Contra Costa Regional Medical Center Physician Dr. Neil Jayasekera and Dave Lipin, Commander of the local Disaster medical Assistance Team, DMAT CA-6 will be speaking at a special workshop Thursday about their experiences in Haiti following the devastating earthquake there. Information also will be presented on the Contra Costa County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), which is a local team of community volunteers trained to respond to and assist with medical and public health emergencies.

Who:

The workshop is open to everyone, including current MRC members and those interested in more information on this volunteer opportunity. Dr. Jayasekera is the Volunteer Team Leader with the Contra Costa MRC and has also been deployed with Federal Emergency Management Agency Search and Rescue and other non-governmental relief agencies to various disasters including Hurricanes Gustav and Ike and Sri Lanka in 2005. He volunteered in Haiti with several other CCRMC doctors with the nonprofit humanitarian group, Partners in Health. Also speaking will be Dave Lipin, Commander of the federal Disaster Medical Assistance Team CA-6, who has deployed to numerous disasters including the World Trade Center, Hurricane Katrina and Haiti.

6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 10 at the John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek Campus, 1601 Ygnacio Valley Road in the Ball Auditorium.
