What:

To recognize National Immunization Awareness Month (August), Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS) will hold a free immunization clinic and has launched a new podcast to raise awareness about vaccine-preventable disease.

Where:

The immunization clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, at the Woman's Club of Antioch Clubhouse, located at 509 G Street in Antioch. Vaccines for measles, chickenpox, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and polio will be available. Flu vaccine will not be available at this clinic. Free vaccinations will be given to anyone under the age of 19 and are given on a first-come, first served basis. The podcast is available online at www.cchealth.org and is accessible from any computer with MP3 capability.

Why:

The two-minute podcast features CCHS Director William Walker, MD, talking about a recent study that suggests children whose parents refuse vaccines are up to 23 times more likely to get sick than those who are immunized. Immunization is the best way to protect against vaccine-preventable diseases. By getting immunized, you can protect yourself, your family and the community.
