Homeless Health Connect to Provide Vision, Health Services to Homeless People
Wednesday, August 19
What:
Contra Costa Health Services is seeking volunteers for its first Homeless Health Connect, a smaller version of its annual Project Homeless Connect that focuses on health services. Volunteers are being sought to help set up, greet and direct people, assist service providers and provide general assistance. Monetary donations are also being accepted. Homeless Health Connect will provide free health services to hundreds of people experiencing homelessness in Contra Costa County. In addition to vision care, services include health care, dental care, bicycle and wheelchair repair, haircuts, animal services and seasonal flu shots will be provided to all homeless persons attending. Lunch will be provided. Contra Costa Health Services and the City of Concord are sponsoring the event.
When:
Homeless Health Connect will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16. Volunteers are needed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers are asked to serve at least a half-day.
Who:
Anyone over the age of 18 is encouraged to volunteer. Volunteer registration forms are available online at www.cchealth.org or by calling 925-313-6124.
Where:
Willow Pass Center, 2748 East Olivera Road, Concord
Why:
Thousands of people experience homelessness each night in Contra Costa. Providing health services promotes good health for the entire community, and many more people, particularly families with children and young adults, are becoming homeless and losing access to care.
