What:

Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS) will hold the first of four community flu vaccination clinics where free H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccine will be available to priority groups in Contra Costa County.

Who

H1N1 flu vaccine will be available only for:

• Pregnant women
• Children ages 6 months through 4 years
• Children who are between 5 years and 18 years with chronic medical conditions
• People who live with or provide care for infants under 6 months of age such as parents, siblings and daycare providers.

Seasonal flu vaccine will be available only for:

• People 60 years and older
• Pregnant women
• People 4 years and older with chronic medical conditions

Chronic medical conditions include diseases of the lung, including asthma, of the heart and kidney, including diabetes, and of the liver. As well as neurologic disorders and weakened immune systems.

When & Where:

The walk-in clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, November 7 at Hilltop Mall in Richmond, 2200 Hilltop Mall Road, in the JC Penney parking lot.For a list of other CCHS community flu vaccination clinics visit www.cchealth.org/topics/swine_flu/

Why:

Because supplies of the H1N1 flu vaccine are currently limited and because we want to protect first those who are at most risk for severe complications from flu only people in the above priority groups will receive vaccine at this community flu vaccination clinic. The community H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccination clinic planned for Nov. 14 at Somersville Towne Center in Antioch has been canceled due to logistical issues. Another free community H1N1 and seasonal flu vaccination clinic will be rescheduled in a different East County city in the near future.
