What:

An interactive workshop will be held to teach the public about proper household hazardous waste disposal, lead poisoning prevention and green jobs. The Contra Costa County Hazardous Materials Commission, County Supervisor Susan Bonilla and the Monument Community Partnership will host the workshop. Input will also be taken from the public about which waste management services are needed in the community. Free dinner, childcare and translation services will be provided.

When:

6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25

Where:

Cambridge Elementary School, 1135 Lacey Lane, Concord

Why:

Household hazardous waste is any unwanted toxic material used in a home. Household hazardous materials, such as pharmaceuticals, electronic devices and batteries, pose a health and safety risk if they are not appropriately thrown away. Due to environmental reasons, it is illegal to dispose of such materials in garbage bins, sewers or storm drains. This meeting will give participants an opportunity to voice concerns about the options for getting rid of household hazardous wastes. Those in attendance will also receive a free digital thermometer in exchange for their old mercury thermometer.
