The public is invited to hear about a recently released report on how public agencies, businesses, and charities must work together to help improve health, economic, educational and environmental disparities in the East Bay.

The Community Assessment Report, which was researched by David Pontecorvo and Nina Bohlen and funded by the East Bay Community Foundation, will be presented by Pontecorvo at the next meeting of the Contra Costa Public and Environmental Health Advisory Board (PEHAB) at 9:30 to 11:45 a.m. Thursday, September 4, at 651 Pine #101, Martinez. The meeting is open to the public.

PEHAB is one organization trying to address these issues and is recruiting new members, said Joanne Genet, PEHAB Executive Assistant.

"Serving on PEHAB is a great way to help bridge the gap between the community and the public agency. PEHAB´s work with CCHS is a step in the direction of collaborating with the community and other organizations to reduce disparities," Genet said.

The 19-member board acts as a link between the community and Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS). The members of the board are appointed by the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors to advise CCHS on community health concerns and to recommend possible solutions. Currently, there are several openings on the board.

All board members need to work or live in Contra Costa County, and members of all backgrounds are welcome. No prior background in either health or community fields is needed.

All members are required to attend full board meetings on alternating months (six meetings a year) as well as participate on a committee, which also meets on alternating months. The positions will remain open until they are filled.
