Advice to avoid heat-related illness

Who

Contra Costa Health Services is warning residents to avoid heat-related illness. Children, the elderly and people with chronic problems are especially at risk.

How

  • Curtail outdoor activity
  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Friends, relatives and neighbor should check on people who may be at risk. A break in a cool environment can help.
  • Avoid hot cars. After 20 minutes, the temperature inside a car can be 150 degrees
  • Watch for symptoms of heat-related illnesses: confusion, fatigue, impaired judgment, weakness, flushing, chills, hyperventilation, dizziness and, in severe cases, collapse, loss of consciousness or seizures.
  • Call your health provider if symptoms appear

  • When

The National Weather Service predicts that temperatures in inland Contra Costa could rise to 100 degrees tomorrow
