Walk, celebration Saturday for National Recovery Month

What

A two-mile walk is being held to commemorate September as National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. This year's theme is "Join the Voices for Recovery: Build a Stronger, Healthier Community." There will be refreshments and free T-shirts as well as entertainment for children and brief speeches.

Who

The event is sponsored by Contra Costa Health Services, Contra Costa's Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Board, and John Muir Medical Pavilion's Center for Recovery. The speakers will are expected to include State Assemblyman Tom Torlakson, County Supervisor Mark DeSaulnier, Concord Mayor Susan Bonilla, Dr. Fred Von Stieff and some people in recovery.

When

The walk will take place Saturday, September 30 beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Where

The walk will begin at John Muir Medical Pavilion's Center for Recovery, 2740 Grant Street in Concord, and will end with a celebration at Baldwin Park, 2750 Parkside Circle in Concord.

Why

"This event is taking place to urge Contra Costans to help prevent alcohol and drug abuse and to promote treatment and recovery options," said Harold Parsley, Chairman of the Alcohol and Other Drugs Advisory Board.
