Community Grants Available for Raising HIV/AIDS Awareness

Sept. 14, 2006

What

The Contra Costa Public Health AIDS Program is offering grants of up to $1,000 grants for community groups and individuals to help raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and the importance of testing.

When

The application deadline is September 29, 2006.

Who

Local groups and institutions, including churches, neighborhood groups/associations, non-profit organizations, salons/barber shops, and individuals are encouraged to apply.

How

Grant money can pay for reimbursement for materials to conduct events in Contra Costa County reaching local residents. Group events corresponding to HIV/AIDS Observances dates are encouraged. All events must take place before June 2007.

Sample event ideas include community events encouraging open discussion to reduce stigma and discrimination about HIV/AIDS, to provide women with the opportunity to talk about HIV prevention and how to negotiate safer sex with partners, and for making AIDS memorial quilts.

The AIDS Program can provide technical assistance, such as event planning and media advocacy.
