Super Saturdays feature tax help plus additional social services

In addition to helping low-to moderate-income workers apply for tax refunds, the Earn It! Keep It! Save It! Contra Costa campaign also will provide health and social services assistance on select Saturdays around the county starting February 19.

The "Super Saturdays" events will feature the free income tax filings along with information on health insurance, small business development and ways to save money on your energy bill.

Representatives from Healthy Families, Food Stamps/MediCal, Consumer Credit Counseling Services, PGE's California Alternative Rates for Energy (CARE) Program and others also will be on hand at the Martinez, Pittsburg and San Pablo sites. Super Saturdays will be held at the following locations:

Families and individuals who earn less than $36,000 annually may qualify for federal Earned Income Tax and Child Care credits and are eligible for free tax services through Earn It! Keep It! Save It! Contra Costa, a program sponsored by the Family Economic Security Partnership (FESP). Last year, the tax program, which runs through April 15, helped 1,300 families or individuals collect $1,350,000 in tax credits, averaging more than $900 per return.

FESP is a public, private and nonprofit collaboration that includes the Contra Costa Employment and Human Services Department, Contra Costa Health Services, United Way of the Bay Area, First Five Contra Costa, IRS, RichmondWORKS/City of Richmond and East Bay Community Foundation.
