Grants Available for Promoting AIDS Awareness

December 29, 2005

Grants are available for businesses, community groups, non-profit organizations and local institutions to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and the importance of taking the HIV test. The grants for up to $1,400 can fund AIDS awareness activities such as writing contests, "Living Quilts," or community forums or festivals.

The grants are administered by Contra Costa Health Services' AIDS Program. A review panel will select grantees and provide recommendations to ensure the activities are successful.

Applications must be submitted by January 27. Activities must take place in Contra Costa County and no later than May 31. Grantees will be required to attend an orientation from 3 - 5 p.m. Friday, February 3 in Martinez.

To get more information about the grant program or an application, log onto the Internet at or call Rhonda Choi at 925-313-6775.

Applications should be submitted to the Power Project MG/AIDS Program, 597 Center Ave., Suite 200, Martinez, CA 94553, or by email to or by fax at 925-313-6798.

"We are seeking creative ideas for spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS and the importance of taking an HIV test," said Rhonda Choi, a health educator with the AIDS Program. "Activities corresponding to dates such as National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on February 7 or Contra Costa AIDS Awareness Month in May are encouraged."
