Grants Available for Promoting AIDS Awareness

December 29, 2005

What:

Grants are available for businesses, community groups, non-profit organizations and local institutions to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and the importance of taking the HIV test. The grants for up to $1,400 can fund AIDS awareness activities such as writing contests, "Living Quilts," or community forums or festivals.

Who:

The grants are administered by Contra Costa Health Services' AIDS Program. A review panel will select grantees and provide recommendations to ensure the activities are successful.

When:

Applications must be submitted by January 27. Activities must take place in Contra Costa County and no later than May 31. Grantees will be required to attend an orientation from 3 - 5 p.m. Friday, February 3 in Martinez.

How:

To get more information about the grant program or an application, log onto the Internet at cchealth.org or call Rhonda Choi at 925-313-6775.

Where:

Applications should be submitted to the Power Project MG/AIDS Program, 597 Center Ave., Suite 200, Martinez, CA 94553, or by email to rchoi@hsd.cccounty.us or by fax at 925-313-6798.

Why:

"We are seeking creative ideas for spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS and the importance of taking an HIV test," said Rhonda Choi, a health educator with the AIDS Program. "Activities corresponding to dates such as National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on February 7 or Contra Costa AIDS Awareness Month in May are encouraged."
