WHAT

May is Mental Health Month and a daylong conference on the topic will attempt to "Take the Initiative to Combat Discrimination and Stigma."

WHEN

Friday, May 7, 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., followed by a reception with separate admission nearby.

WHERE

First Presbyterian Church of Concord, 1965 Colfax St.

WHY

To help the community understand the impact of stigma and discrimination on people with mental health issues and to address as a community a number of issues, as represented by the following workshops at the conference: Looking at the Message; The Media and Stigma; and California and Bay Area Initiatives to Combat Stigma.

WHO

This mental health community event is presented by Contra Costa Health Services Mental Health Division’s Recovery Task Force and the Bay Area County Mental Health Directors. It will feature as its keynote speaker Patrick Corrigan, a Professor of Psychiatry from University of Chicago and nationally renowned author and researcher on discrimination and stigma. Other speakers include Steve Mayberg, director of the state Department of Mental Health.

HOW
