New Health Emergency Information Line is Up and Running
June 18, 2004
An East Bay County has launched a toll free phone line that will provide callers with vital health emergency information, including updates on West Nile Virus.
The new Health Emergency Information Line will be operated by Contra Costa Health Services' Communicable Disease Programs Unit. The bilingual, toll-free number - 1-888-959-9911 or 211 - provides callers with information about health emergencies such as West Nile Virus. The line can be accessed by all Contra Costa County residents and information is available in both English and Spanish.
"We're proud to have this new health emergency line. It has a lot of health information that callers can get free of charge and when they need it," said Francie Wise, Contra Costa Public Health's Communicable Disease Chief.
According to Wise, the pre-recorded phone line currently has information about West Nile Virus prevention, symptoms and testing but will be updated to include other vital health information as the need arises.
"This is an important number for people to remember because should there be a health emergency in the county, this is the number they will be calling for information," said Wise.
She said Health Services has printed numerous fliers promoting the number and providing information about West Nile Virus prevention. The fliers are being distributed at various health fairs, clinics and hospitals. They are available to the public by calling 925-313-6823 or online at ccpublichealth.org.
