New Emergency Preparedness Show to Hit the Airwaves

A new up-beat educational television program will hit the airwaves with vital emergency preparedness information.
Contra Costa Health Services and Contra Costa Television have produced Get Ready, Get Healthy, a series that will discuss emergency preparedness and other health topics. The first 30-minute show will explain what an emergency response plan is and the contents of a supply kit and first aid kit. Get Ready, Get Healthy: Emergency Preparedness is scheduled to make its debut on June 3 at 10:30 a.m. and will replay June 7 and 14 at 7 p.m. and June 10 and 17 at 10:30 a.m. on channel 27. Guest will be Dan Guerra, Contra Costa Health Services' Emergency Preparedness Manager and Tracy Hein Emergency Services Manager for the Office of Emergency Services.
"We are really excited about this program. It is a fun and effective way to get out very important information," said Erika Jenssen, Health Emergency Coordinator for Contra Costa Health Services.
According to Jenssen, the show will remind viewers why it is important to be prepared for disasters and will provide them with information that can keep them safe during an emergencies. The series is part of the Health Department's ongoing preparedness efforts and is funded with a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
"We need to remember that emergencies can be disruptive. It is important to be prepared. Preparation can help persons react wisely during emergencies and can save lives," said Jenssen.
She said the show will provide resources where people can call to receive brochures, pamphlets and training.
"On this show we will explain what disasters we need to be prepared for in Contra Costa, where to go for information, how to shelter-in-place and how to duck-cover-hold. All these are essential to know during an emergency," said Jenssen.
