Presumptive Eligibility Medi-Cal


Presumptive Eligibility (PE) is a Medi-Cal program providing immediate, temporary coverage for prenatal services (except delivery, family planning, and optional abortion procedures) to low-income women. PE will cover the cost of these services while the County is processing a woman's Medi-Cal application.

Who Is Eligible?

Any woman who thinks she is pregnant, whose family income is under a certain amount, and who seeks prenatal care through a participating Medi-Cal provider. Undocumented women are eligible.

How Much Does It Cost?

Prenatal care services under PE are free to eligible women.

Pregnancy-only Medi-Cal

A pregnant woman who does not qualify for full-scope Medi-Cal may be eligible for a Medi-Cal benefit that is restricted to prenatal care, labor and delivery services, family planning services, and postpartum care that lasts for at least 60 days following the end of pregnancy.

Who Is Eligible?

Pregnant women, including undocumented women, with family income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.

How Much Does It Cost?

Pregnancy-only Medi-Cal services are free to eligible women.
